The best part might be catching a nice King Salmon, filleting the fish right there on the back of the boat and making sushi. Grab a little soy sauce and some wasabi, mix it together and cut the fish into delightful bite size pieces. There you go, you now have the best tasting and absolutely freshest fish you can put your teeth into. It tastes great and is a wonderful way to eat fish.

I took my boy and a fellow employee halibut fishing last summer. We booked with Sweetwatercharters and Captain Travis Wilcox. I fished with him a few years back, on a company trip. I had such a great time, I knew it was something my son needed to experience. Captain Trav picked us up in the morning and off we went for a day of fishing, or like Trav calls it, Yacht fishing. His boat, the Ann Marie is was an absolute treat to be on. He took us right to the halibut fishing grounds and dropped the anchor. It was probably an hour before we had our first bite. But fortunately for us the first bite weighed 35 pounds. Trav told us the small ones bite first and then the big ones move in to see what all the commotion is about. He was right, after catching our 3 halibut under 32 inches the next 2 where 50 and 60 pounders. I thought my boy was going for a swim. He always said he wanted to catch a big halibut, but after his battle, he said he would stick to the small ones.

Me and my brothers took off on an outdoor adventure. Fishing in Ketchikan, Alaska with Sweetwatercharters and Captain Travis Wilcox. We came across his contact info while we where on a cruiseship. So we called him and from the enthusiasm in his voice, we did not hesitate to book our trip. We went to Ketchikan, Alaska in early July, King season, Captain Trav told us. We where looking for the monster king salmon we have only dreamt about. Just like the good Captain said, we where on the fish as soon as our lines touched the water. Trav told us this was one of his old commercial fishing hook offs and they always caught kings in the net. Well, we didn’t catch the 50 pounder, but we did go home with over 150 pounds of seafood in a 2 day trip. Our biggest king salmon was 36 pounds and needless to say, we are looking forward to this year. Maybe it is the year we get the big one. Thanks Captain Trav, we owe you, big time!

We went salmon fishing in Ketchikan, Alaska. It was June 29,2007 and we chartered our favorite boat to fish on. The Ann Marie and Captain Travis Wilcox, what a combo. Captain Trav took us to a local troll known as Mountain Point. Trav assured us that there was plenty of 50 pounder kings in the water, getting them to bite was another story. We stopped in front of a blue house and before we could get the 3rd line in the water we had a double hook up. No 50 pounders but a couple of chrome bright 35 pounders. Needless to say we love salmon fishing with Captain Trav

I had to work on the boat all day to fix a simple little problem. When I finished my chores, I decided to look at the tide book and see what time the tide change was that evening. It worked out that I would hit the tide perfect in about an hour. So I called a buddy and we untied the Ann Marie. We made the 10 minute run to the fishing grounds and started getting the gear in the water. As soon as we started the troll, we hit a massive bait ball. (a school of herring) We started to make our turn and we both hooked up. The time of year is September and it is one of the most productive times of the year for monster coho’s. The salmon fishing this time of year is definitely at its peak. We put 8 nice coho’s in the boat in the next hour and a half. Needless to say it made for a full smoker load the next evening.
